- it's not cold as dick outside
- there's girls to look at
- the wind isn't blowing so hard that it makes all your throws look like butt hole.
... however, it is fun when you know you're getting a bit faster.
Today I went to Holmdel Park and ran the xc course with Jimmy Wilder... yes, the same Jimmy Wilder that left Sideshow long, long ago to fly fast planes that shot missiles. Anyway, we did some stretching and then ran the first mile as a warm-up (maybe 7-8 minutes). The next mile is known as the "bowl mile" because it is this crater that is shaped like a bowl right in the middle of it. It's got a steep hill leading from the bottom of this imaginary bowl to the top... basically this part isn't very fun. Feeling a bit ambitious, we decided to run 4 of these. The first time we ran it in 7 minutes... the second in about 6.5 minutes. Notice a trend yet? Well we did. So we figured that if we ran a bit faster each time we'd be down to 5.5 minutes the last one-- essentially smoking the shit outta this bowl. Well our bodies said a big "fuck you" to that. We only made it down to 6 minutes.
We then finished the last mile of the 5k course... Jimmy in 5ish minutes... me in 5:40-- downhill has a way of making runners out of anyone. Anyway we then threw for a while. The wind was very humbling; I was quickly reminded the importance of getting low and getting a lot of spin on the disc when throwing. Regardless, running with a partner definitely makes you work harder, and being reminded to not neglect the minor details of throwing (especially in the wind) is very beneficial. Do it.
